Summers in Nederland are popular for tourists. The cool mountain air is soothing and revitalizing and a perfect environment for those wishing to hike, bike, horse back ride, or just escape the heat.
Reynolds Ranch and West Magnolia Multi-Use Trails
Several Trail systems are literally right out side your door. Within minutes, you can walk / run / jump / slide / ski / bike to Reynolds Ranch or West Magnolia trail heads from the lodge in a matter of minutes (like, we mean 2–10 minutes.) The West Magnolia area has been recently upgraded by the Forest Service with trail improvements and new Kiosks with local information and trial maps.
Some very popular trailheads are on the header image: Hesse and Fourth of July trailheads are just west of the Town of Eldora (turn off the highway just south of Nederland). The East Portal Trailhead is west of Rollinsville (turn off the highway towards Tolland, and follow the tracks).
The nearby Indian Peaks include the challenging James Peak and Arapaho Peak. Rollins Pass was chosen for the first train route across the Continental Divide; the train now passes through the Indian Peaks via the Moffat Tunnel.
See the trail descriptions on the Nederland Visitor Center Hiking Page, especially for hikes from the Hesse and Fourth of July Traileads.
